I'm a cleansing balm newbie. The only other cleansing balm I have tried is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish set that I got in my Birchbox. That one is very light compared to this one. I also hear bloggers rave about the Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm but I think that's a little hard to get ahold of in the states and also a bit pricey. A few months ago I was in LUSH and picked up this to try: the Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser. The sales associate highly recommended it to me and said it really helps balance your skin if you use it regularly. I have only been using it on and off and I prefer to use it while I'm in the shower because it is quite thick and I just find it easier to remove while I'm in the shower. I've been testing it out for a few months now and now I'm ready to share my thoughts.
As you can see the cleanser is a thick balm. One of the main ingredients is Beeswax and that makes it very gentle on your skin. It kind of feels like your dipping your finger into a hair wax but its a little creamier than that. I take a small pea size and massage it in circular motions all over my face (even my eyes). It feels very thick and oily on the skin and it definitely breaks down my makeup and helps remove it but even after I have wiped my face I always feel there is more left on my skin. I usually follow with another gentle cleanser. My thinking is that the Ultrabland is used to remove my makeup and the next cleanser is used to actually wash my face.
I don't like to use this everyday but on days when I have a little more makeup on I like to whip this out and help get the makeup off. I like the idea of cleansing balms but I'm not as big of a fan as most people I feel. I just feel greasy while it's all over my face but I do think they work well. Not sure I will repurchase this but it does look like it will be lasting me a long time.
Are you a fan of cleansing balms?
