Happy Halloween!!!

This year my fiance and I dressed up as the McDonald's Hamburglar and Burger!

The stopped dress is from H&M, the cape (kids size) is from Party City and the red gloves are from a dollar store in my neighborhood. I drew on my own mask and I made the tie out of felt. I glued and sewed together the different layers of the burger and then stuffed it to give it dimension. Then I sewed it to this old yellow t-shirt which acted as cheese. There is also a back to the burger and is on the other side of the shirt. Also, for my costume I had a black hat but didn’t wear it in pictures.

For my mask I got a little creative and used only eyeshadow and eyeliner! I started by tracing lightly with a teal eyeliner of how big and what shape I wanted my mask to be. Then I went over it with a black eyeliner. Next I used a wet eyeshadow brush and used the black eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I literally just filled in the whole mask! Then I went over the edges with a felt tip eyeliner pen to give the mask a more 3D/shadow effect. Mask done!

With my two babies Riley and Izzy

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

Bloodshot Eyeball Nails

With Halloween coming up on Thursday, I thought I'd do something a little different: An attempt at nail art! I'm not very good and that means I can only do my left hand. This seemed creepy and easy to do so here it is! Bloodshot Eyeball nails!

You can either put down a white base coat or for something not so in your face, I just used the color of my own nails. Then you use a fine tip brush or even the nail dotting tool to paint little red strokes all around the outer rim of your nail. In the middle, first put down a bigger dot for the iris (i chose a blue nail polish color but you can pick whatever color you want). After that dries, lay down the inner black dot for the pupil and finally just place a little white highlight dot and voila! Festive nails check!

Here are the tools I used (I actually don’t own a black black nail polish so I got away with just using a super dark purple for pupil. Happy Halloween guys!

Hair Lift

My hair is extremely straight. It doesn't like any other direction but straight. I always have a hard time keeping any curl in my hair and it often just lies very flat on my head. This is where these two products come in.

When my roots are looking a little oily or if I just want to add some lightness and lift to my hair, I always reach for my Batiste Dry Shampoo. I'm almost out of this can so I will be purchasing another one soon. This one is for dark hair so you don't get that white powder all over your hair that a lot of dry shampoos do. It's really easy and I'm just obsessed with it.

If I want an extra lift, than I grab this brush: the Spornette Little Wonder Brush. Just take sections of your hair and comb your hair in the other direction to create more texture. Don't over do it because you could get tangles but a few back combing sections and you're hair has got some life!

Here is a picture of my hair before with nothing in it.

And after!

It's subtle but I like just the little added texture.

LUSH Cleanse + Tone

I have never shopped at LUSH (shock!!) I went in for the first time this past weekend and came out with these 2 beauties. I'm super excited for both and I have been using the Tea Tree Water Toner Water all week. The sales associate said I should be cautious since the Tea Tree toner might dry out my skin since it fights and prevents acne, but so far I have not noticed any changes. It's a nice simple toner and I think I'm just a little obsessed with spray toners. Really wakes and freshens up the face.

The Tea Tree Water Toner Water helps with oily acne prone skin. It helps brighten dull tired skin while keeping blemishes at bay. Tea Tree Water helps reduce redness and excess oil - a great way to begin your morning routine!

The UltraBland Facial Cleanser is another product I am extremely excited to use. I tested it at the store but I have not yet used it at home. I am currently using the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish at night to wash my face and remove all my makeup.

Ultrabland is a rich oily/waxy consistency of essential oils, honey and beewax to help remove makeup and cleanse your face. After you spread it all over your face you can use a wet hot towel to wipe off the cleanser to reveal soft and ultra moisturized skin. This is a cult product that everyone loves so I'm excited to start using it soon!

Do you guys like LUSH products?

SANA Make Essence Concealer

I am always curious to try asian brand makeup products and last week when I was shopping for some ramen I saw this concealer and got suckered into the cute packaging. I got the shade in Light Pink which I thought was really good to conceal purple/blue dark circles. The concealer claims to conceal skin discoloration and even out skin tone. As the picture in the packaging suggests, I decided to test it out as an under eye concealer. I think this is where I got confused...

As you can see the concealer looks very natural, but I still feel there is uneven skin tone under my eyes as it did not fully cover my dark circles. It’s a pretty light and sheer concealer that blends out very naturally. However, I thought it was a little too sheer and had to really build up the layers to be somewhat satisfied. I did some research online and I believe the light pink one is actually made with silicone and it’s mainly to help cover pores and to help reduce the appearance of pores. There is a yellow one that is used for under eyes so I may have to pick that up and give it a try and test the pink one again for pores!

Do you guys products based on packaging?

Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow

The Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow blush has been on my radar for awhile. I finally picked up the shade, Patrice, because it's a perfect shade to pop on your cheeks and lips for Autumn/Winter. I love my peach pinks for summer but now I'm more in the mood of berry and dark nudes. Patrice looks a little intense and dark in the pot, but you need the tiniest amount to slowly build it to a nice sheer wash of color. It's easy to blend and work into the skin. I love the consistency and it gives your lips a nice berry stain as well. And since I still have a little bit of a tan, it suites me much more than some of the lighter pinks and peaches in the range. It comes in a nice little pot with a mirror that is great for your handbag.

I highly recommend going to swatch these next time you're at the Kevyn Aucoin counter. I like that these blushes give you a sheer, healthy, natural looking glow from within look. So far I have always been using my fingers to apply cream blush but I may invest in a brush soon...

Skincare Tag

I saw the Skincare Tag on Fragmented Splendour's blog and I thought it was a fun one because half the time I'm blogging about skincare anyway. It's a quick tag but I thought it would still be fun to do. For me, skincare is the most important and what you should really invest in. Here we go!

Describe your routine in 5 words...
Fresh, Thorough, Experimental, Exfoliating, Hydrating

What's your skin type?
I would say combination/oily.

What is your favourite skincare product?
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo

Top blemish zapper...
Origins Super Spot Remover

Face wipes... yay or nay?
Nay!

Toner... yay or nay?
YAYYYYY. Tone morning and night.

High end skincare or high end makeup?
High end skincare all the way. There are so many great drugstore makeup products that I could use instead of high end makeup but skincare is a different story.

What is the most universal skincare product you've tried?
Bioderma (does this count as skincare?) if not I would say the Elizabeth Ardern Eight Hour Cream

You're in a pharmacy and can only pick up one item - what would it be?
Probably La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo. I'm that obsessed.

Top skincare tips.
Stick to a routine and always take off your makeup and cleanse before you go to sleep.
Use products that target your skin type and issues.
Try to exfoliate twice a week and keep your skin moisturized.
Finally, ALWAYS WEAR SPF!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Let's Get Naked

I have been a little obsessed with the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks this month. Especially this easy to wear peachy nude shade in the fun name, Let's Get Naked. I'm obsessed because it's super creamy and these lipsticks contain Hylaronic Acid, Collagen and Vitamins A, C and E. I think I'm a little obsessed with Hylaronic Acid (and in search for Hydraluron by Indeed Labs) and so when I found out the formula of these lipsticks contained it this lipstick has not left my side. I don't love the packaging. It's very plastic and makes a very loud click when you close the lid but I can get over that. I have noticed how dry my lips have been now and it's really important I am keeping my skin and lips hydrated. I still like to put a balm on before I apply this lipstick, but this is seriously creamy. A winter winner in my book.

Do you change your lipsticks depending on the weather and formula?

Top 5 Nail Polish Picks for Fall

Here are my top 5 picks for fall nail polish!

OPI Malaga Wine
This feels like a real grown up red. This is a deep red with a hint of burgundy but it feels very rich and warm - great for the cold weather.

Revlon Plummy
I love berry colors for lipstick, blush, clothing and nails! This is a brighter plummy color with hints of fushia. It's a real fun color and I love wearing this on my toes as well.

Essie Velvet Voyage
This is a deep deep plum that almost looks black on the nails (especially if you wear 2 coats). I absolutely love this shade and I think i've almost gone through half the bottle which is rare. It's definitely my go-to shade for Fall/Winter.

Essie Smokin' Hot
This is the new addition to my nail polish collection of the bunch (the other 4 have been loved for over a year at least) and it's a great neutral nail that goes with everything. I love the dark grey and looks great for work and just feels like winter.

Chanel 505 Particuliere
This is a classic Chanel nail polish shade that is a minky brown color. It's a great alternative for a nude nail especially if you have more of a medium skin tone. It just feels super sophisticated and I love wearing it! It's a little pricier but it's nice treating yourself once in awhile!

P.S. I've got my eye on Essie After School Boy Blazer...

French Bulldog Nail File

Ummm how cute is this nail file? I had to pick up this adorable nail file shaped like a French Bulldog and it's probably just going to sit on my desk because I just want to stare at it. This was only $1.80 so I think it was a great adorable find and will always make me think of my little frenchie, Riley.

Drugstore Haul

I picked up a few things I'm excited about from CVS and drugstore.com! Those are probably the 2 places I shop most for drugstore makeup.

it's a 10 miracle leave-in plus kertain
i'm almost out of my sexy healthy hair soy tri-wheat leave in conditioner and i wanted to try something new. i love leave-in conditioning sprays. they're super easy and i need something to help detangle my hair a little since it's colored. the title, it's a 10, suggests it does 10 things instantly:

  • maintenance of keratin straightening treatments
  • increases styling & manageability
  • perfect for all hair types
  • replaces lost protein
  • protects the natural keratin in hair
  • protects against heat
  • restores hydration balance
  • restores hydration balance
  • detangles, de frizzes & adds shine
  • strengthens hair structure
  • seals cuticles for extra silky hair

tweezerman deluxe cosmetic sharpener
i just desperately needed a new sharpener for my eye pencils. i love that this one has a lid on the top and bottom to catch the pieces that get shaved off.

rimmel stay matte powder in 001 transparent
this is a repurchase! this is just an amazing product for the price. i use this pretty much every morning to remove the shine from the t-zone and i like the transparent shade so i can use it year round.

rimmel scandaleyes shadow stick in bad girl bronze
i've already used this for the past week. i couldn't wait. it's a really beautiful russet brown color that blends extremely easily to a sheer wash of color depending how strong you want the color. After you get the look you want the color doesn't budge! Great waterproof formula.

loreal infallible eyeshadow in bronzed taupe
after hearing so much hype around this particular shade i just had to get it. it's pretty amazing... it's a pressed powder eyeshadow but it doesn't really feel like powder powder. it goes on incredibly easy and is pretty shimmery. it's easy to blend and work with on the eyes and also has great staying power.

aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer with SPF 15
it's been awhile since i tried a drugstore moisturizer that i really liked. i picked this up because again i've heard a lot of great things about it online. This moisturizer claims to even out skin tone, improve skin texture and leave skin soft and smooth in as little four weeks. It contains Total Soy Complex and Natural Light Diffusers that naturally even out skin tone and immediately reflect light to bring out skin's natural radiance. excited to test it out!

Any drugstore product recommendations I should pick up?

Nails Inc Porchester Square

The picture may look a little lighter than in person, but Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Porchester Square is a gorgeous taupey nude shade that looks very chic and sophisticated. I love that on the Nails Inc website the first thing it says is, "As seen on Beyonce". Amazing. Anyway, I love the Nails Inc Gel Effect formula. The brushes are good and it seriously applies so smoothly. (I also have the Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Portobello - a gorgeous bright orange red). The polishes themselves are super shiny but I still like to pop on the Seche Vite top coat. Porchester Square is their best selling nude and I think its a great choice for fall because of the cool tones.

Have you tried any Nails Inc polishes?

October Birchbox

October's Birchbox has arrived!

Chapstick Hydration Lock
I have already tested this and it is a very creamy moisturizing chapstick. It's vanilla scented so it smells good and seems overall like a great chapstick for my handbag.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser with Muslin Cloth
I have not tried this but I have heard a lot of great things about this cleanser. I was so excited to receive it and I have been wanting to try washing my face with a muslin cloth. Muslin cloths gently exfoliate your skin while removing product. I will report back later how I get on with this.

Joie Folle de Joie perfume
I never get too excited about getting perfume samples, but the scent is nice. It's a mix of mandarin, rose and sandalwood.

POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer
When I first saw this color I was a little turned off, but after applying it I have changed my mind. I love how plump, glossy and sheer the color is. And it has a cute paddle applicator that makes applying the gloss super easy!

Miss Jessie's Original Creme de la Creme Conditioner
I am excited to try this leave in conditioner but I wish this came in an easier sample container to use. This claims to soften, detangle and nourish both curly and straight hair. You can run it through damp or dry hair.

Happy Monday!

Radical Skincare Age Defying Exfoliating Pads

This is the second product I have purchased from the Radical Skincare line. I absolutely love their Radical Skincare Instant Revitalizing Mask. It's so unique and I am also excited to be using these exfoliating pads. When I purchased them, the sales associate said after you cleanse, these exfoliating pads become your toner and moisturizer in 1. Easy enough! The first I noticed is how gentle it feels. The pads are not coarse and do not sting your face at all. They feel soothing and it reminds of the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Face Peels, but way more gentle!

These pads include Glycolic Acid which is commonly used in products for acne treatment, exfoliation, and chemical peels. It is a natural exfoliant that will help skin look softer, smoother, more even tone, diminish fine lines, wrinkles and age spots over time. Alpha hydroxy acids help skin stay firm while reducing the appearance of large pores and wrinkles and beta hydroxy acids boost cell turnover. I think will be a great addition to my Fall/Winter skincare routine. It may be a little pricey, but you get 100 pads! Viviannadoesmakeup, Lily Pebbles and Liana Beauty recommend the Radical Hydrating Cleanser. Their blog posts mentioning the cleanser are linked. I'm in the market for a new cleanser as mine is almost running out... Might have to look into it soon!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Empties #4

Another Empties post!

It was satisfying tossing a few items during the move to simplify my bathroom medicine cabinet. Although I might have to repurchase some of these products because they were really that good.

REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask
I mentioned this mask in one of my early early posts. In my opinion this is seriously one of the easiest and most effective masks out there. Its a goopy fruity mask that never dries so you just slather it all over your face, wait about 10-20 minutes and then wash off with warm water. I love how smooth, really clean and radiant your skin looks after. It really feels like it take off a layer of dead skin. I will be repurchasing this soon.

Le Labo Santal 26 Vintage Candle
I purchased this candle as a present for my boyfriend and we have finally finished using it. It was a bit too masculine for me, but he really enjoyed it so that made me happy. Online the description says it's a gentle, smokey and leathery scent… you can see why girls aren't really drawn to it. I love the packaging though and Le Labo has some wonderful perfumes I want to try.

Boots Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz
I definitely enjoyed using this toner a lot. I love spray toners because they are just so easy feel refreshing. They wake me up in the morning. This was a nice simple organic rosewater toner that I could possibly repurchase.

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara
Goodbye to my summer 2013 mascara. I seriously wore this almost every single day. I will say I got tired of using it by the end of the summer and very tired of removing stubborn waterproof mascara. I may suffer from super straight lashes but I don't want to suffer every night anymore removing the product it too.

Amore Pacific Time Response Skin Renewal Creme
This was such a luxurious moisturizer that I really loved using. Read my full review here.

Now that I've used up some products, that means I get to go shopping right?

REN ClearCalm 3 Replenishing Night Serum

I purchased the REN ClearCalm 3 Replenishing Night Serum last Fall when I first started using the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (that I'm obsessed with). Because of the cold weather and the acne treatment, my skin was really suffering of dry patches around my nose and cheeks and so I was looking for something to give me that extra moisture. Recently with the cooler weather coming in I've been adding this step into my night time routine again.

The serum feels soothing and replenishing and comes in a gel-cream like formula that you gently massive into your skin after you cleanse and tone and before you moisturize. It definitely feels very calming and relaxing to apply. Overnight it helps problematic and blemish prone skin to become clear, calm and comfortable while reducing the appearance of scars and redness. It is called ClearCalm 3 because it fights the 3 causes of breakouts:

1. excess sebum buildup
2. buildup of deerskin cells
3. blemish-causing bacteria

I really like this added step to go with my acne treatments when I feel my skin is looking like it's going to break out. I also hear the REN ClearCalm 3 Claryifying Clay Cleanser is really good for oily acne prone skin.

Current Makeup Staples

Since moving over the weekend, I was living off limited amounts of everything: makeup, clothes, shoes, food, etc... Here is what I jam packed into my little Muji tray for my everyday makeup the past week.

I started with applying some Laura Mercier radiance primer to give some life into my face every morning. I have been loving the Nars Compact Foundation in Santa Fe. It's the perfect color match for me right now. Then I like to use a combo of the Bobbi Brown Corrector with the YSL Touche Eclat to erase those dark circles so I look AWAKE. Powder down my t-zone with the Chanel Les Beiges in no. 30 and that's base done! Some days I would add a little nars laguna if I felt a little washed out.

Usually I do brows next. I use my Sephora angled brush and spooly brush with MAC Brun to get the shape I like. Then I secure that shape with the Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette. Brows done.

I like to curl my eye lashes first. I hate getting makeup on the curler so I always curl first. Then I pat down MAC groundwork paint pot all over the lid and I seriously wore Maybelline Bad to the Bronze Color Tattoo every day last week. It's so easy and just gives you that extra little shimmer to your eyes. Some days I added a little Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner super close to the lash line and then put on about two coats of revlon lash potion mascara. Add some YSL Creme Blush in 2 Powdery Rose to the apples of my cheeks and apply Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Nudist and I'm done!

Essie Sugar Daddy

Essie Sugar Daddy is described as a sweet and shimmery pink, perfect for a french manicure. It's a subtle subtle sheer wash of pink that looks really great if you want a very minimal nail look. I usually have to put 3 coats of this  but sometimes I'm just in the mood for some clear glossy nails. If you don't like your nails showing through this polish isn't for you, but if you want some polished natural looking nails, I highly recommend Sugar Daddy! It's the perfect your nails but better nail polish.

Have a great weekend!

MAC and Proenza Schouler Collection

I cannot scream enough how excited I am about this collaboration. Coming in April 2014, I plan to be all over this. Temptalia has some great preview information about the collection. She states that the limited edition collection will include ombre face powders, lipsticks, pro longwear eye liners, lip pencils, nail polishes and a 129SE powder brush. SO EXCITED. Inspiration from their past collections I cannot wait to see the packaging and everything in this line! April 2014 seems so far away... Below is me posing with the giant Proenza Schouler ads that were all over LES and soho a year ago :)

“Beauty has always played a huge role in what we do on the runway and MAC has been one of our biggest supporters. We wanted to create something that the Proenza Schouler woman could relate to off the runway, and the MAC brand is so deeply rooted in fashion that we knew they would understand our vision.”
— Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Proenza Schouler

“I have always respected Jack and Lazaro’s keen vision and point of view. We’ve worked together backstage creating beauty looks for their runway shows for many years and it has been fascinating to me watching them evolve. They have a very particular perspective on their makeup look each season. It has been a great experience collaborating with them to bring their beauty vision off the runway to our customers.”

If you do any heat styling to your hair, whether it's as simple as blow drying your hair or if you plan on using a flat iron or curling iron to, it's super important to use a heat protection spray! I like to use the Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray to protect my hair from heat and friction, to keep it moisturized and to keep damage to a minimal. It's an easy step to add into your routine. You can pick it up at any drugstore and it's great for only about $6. I hold the bottle a few inches away from your hair and spray all over your hair. Then you're ready to style your hair!

September Favorites

Another month another favorites post!

Missha Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Cream
Fall means I need to transition to heavier moisturizers. All throughout September I used this cream to help my skin lock in moisture and feel hydrated. I love love love the way this cream feels and smells. You can read a full review here.

YSL Babydoll Mascara
I am obsessed with this mascara - especially the mascara wand. I wish this came in a waterproof formula... then it would be my holy grail mascara! It's still amazing and as soon as this deluxe sample size runs out, I'm immediately going to get the full size.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour
This powder feels so luxurious and smells incredible. The powder is super fine so you don't look cakey at all. I love carrying it around with me for touchups throughout the day and the packaging is just too much. It's a little but of a splurge but sometimes you just need to treat yourself. Read my full review here.

Ojon Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum
I re-ombred my hair this month (about 2 weeks ago) and so I have been loving this hair serum for just the ends of my hair. I warm up the product in my hands and then I just run it through the ends on damp hair.

Real Techniques Duo Fiber Face Brush
I love all the Duo Fiber brushes from Real Techniques but this one has got to be my favorite and the one I use every single day. Since it's Duo Fiber that means it picks up less product which is great so you won't be using a heavy hand to pile on makeup. It gives you a more natural finish when applying powder and I highly recommend it.

Maybelline Babylips in Cherry Me
It's a little nuts how many Babylips I own but they are seriously amazing. I wouldn't say all of them are amazing (I'm not a fan of Pink Punch and Peach Kiss because they're a little chalky in my opinion) but Cherry Me and Quenched are much more sheer and feel super moisturizing. I love the Quenched has SPF 20 but I love the color of Cherry Me (and the smell!) These are great affordable lip balms.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze
I seriously have been wearing this every day this month. It's just been so easy to apply and that's just what you need in the morning when you're getting ready for work. I always put MAC paint pot in Groundwork as a base and primer first. Then I apply Bad to the Bronze up to my crease and then blend out the edges with a fluffy brush. Simple, easy and looks great!

Btw, it's freaking Ocobter 1st today!
